Xbox Game Pass Family Plan is coming, says new rumor

Xbox Game Pass Family Plan

A new rumor is suggesting Microsoft is prepping a new Xbox Game Pass Family Plan, possibly adding even more value to the popular subscription.

The new rumor comes via sources over at Windows Central, who claim Microsoft is indeed updating their subscription to include an Xbox Game Pass Family Plan. Until an official announcement is made by Microsoft we won’t have a lot to go on.

In case you’ve been living under a rock down in Bikini Bottom, Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass is a subscription service that allows members to pay a monthly fee in return for access to over 100 games. You can think of it as the Netflix of video games, however, unlike Netflix, Xbox Game Pass in its current state doesn’t allow for any kind of account sharing.

The rumor notes the Xbox Game Pass Family Plan will be priced higher than existing plans, giving you the added benefit of sharing your games library with up to five users – and will be much cheaper than paying for five game pass subscriptions. Furthermore, Microsoft is rumored to be using a “Master Account” system, very similar to the method Netflix uses for account sharing.

With Nintendo already offering family share for their online service, and Sony having just announced their revamped PlayStation Plus subscription service, this might just be the thing that keeps Microsoft ahead of the rest when it comes to subscription-based gaming.

Xbox Game Pass is currently available at two pricing points: $9.99 per month for PC and Console, or an Ultimate plan for $14.99 per month.

What do you think? Would you upgrade to a family plan? If you don’t use a subscription games service would Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass Family Plan convince you to make the switch?
